Denim moves faster than any other fabric in our factory. A retailer who tries one size set usually repeats the order within the month, because customers now walk in and ask for a denim kurti by name. In this guide I will explain every denim kurti type we manufacture at Snehal Creation, the washes that change how each piece looks, and what a sensible first order looks like for a boutique or an online store.
A denim kurti for women sits between ethnic wear and western wear. The cut is familiar to Indian buyers, while the fabric feels modern and needs very little maintenance. College students pair short denim kurtis with leggings and jeans. Working women pick dark indigo for the office. Buyers abroad order them because denim travels well and matches almost everything in a wardrobe. One rack covers many customer types, which is rare in ladies wear.

Sleeveless denim kurtis. Strong summer sellers, and in winter they layer neatly over full-sleeve tops, so the style earns its shelf space in both seasons.
Long denim kurtis. Knee length and below in princess cuts. Modest daily wear that does especially well in north India during winter months.
A-line denim dresses. Flared from the bust and worn as a one-piece, with or without a bottom. This style brings us boutique buyers who never stocked ethnic wear before.
Straight one-piece denim. A clean straight silhouette with shirt collars and roll-up sleeves. The most indo-western piece in the range.
Corset denim kurtis. Fitted bodice styling and the newest of the six. Instagram-led stores are moving these quickly right now.
Two kurtis with the same cut can look completely different after finishing, and this is where most of our development effort goes. Light and ice washes read casual and young. Mid-blue is the safest everyday shade. Dark indigo suits office wear, and stone or enzyme washing gives the soft faded vintage effect.
Beyond the base wash, our factory adds work that is hard to find at wholesale prices: soft wash for a broken-in feel, colour wash and over-dyeing for shades beyond blue, discharge printing that creates a pattern by removing colour from the fabric, and embroidery in three depths, from highlighting embroidery to full hand embroidery and chikankari on denim. Short pieces go with jeans and leggings, long pieces stand on their own, and the A-line dress needs nothing else at all. Since denim is a neutral, accessories are easy: silver jewellery, white sneakers or juttis, and a printed dupatta when the customer wants a fusion look. We cut kurtis from light to mid-weight denim of roughly 4.5 to 8 oz, often with slight stretch. It drapes softly and stays comfortable through an Indian summer, which jeans fabric cannot do. Care advice for your customers is short: cold wash inside out, mild detergent, no bleach, dry in shade. Yes. An A-line denim kurti in a longer length works well as a one-piece dress on its own, without any bottom. Shorter and straight styles are usually worn with jeans, leggings or trousers, while the longer A-line and flared cuts are made to be worn as a dress.
They overlap. A denim kurti is the ethnic-wear cut, usually worn with a bottom, while a denim dress is a longer one-piece worn on its own. The same A-line denim piece can be styled either way, which is what makes it versatile.
Lighter denim and softly washed denim are comfortable through most of the year, including Indian summers, because the fabric is treated to be softer and less stiff. Heavier raw denim suits cooler weather better.
The finishing. A good denim kurti is softened and treated so it is comfortable from the first wear, with even colour, clean stitching and value-additions like soft wash, over-dyeing or embroidery. Cheap denim kurtis are stiff, fade unevenly and lose shape.
Wash it inside out in cold water with a mild detergent, separately for the first few washes because denim can bleed. Dry it in the shade to protect the colour, and iron on medium heat. Avoid harsh detergents and hot water, which fade denim quickly.
Short and straight denim kurtis pair with jeans, leggings, palazzos or trousers, and look good with juttis, sneakers or block heels. A longer A-line denim kurti is worn as a dress on its own, dressed up with juttis and simple jewellery or down with flat sandals.
